Appalachian Center for Independent Living
Resource Details
The Appalachian Center for Independent Living, Inc provides information about community resources that are available to people with disabilities. We provide information and referrals directly to people with disabilities, and we provide information to other interested people such as family members, friends, employers and service providers.
Mission: To promote the interdependence, productivity, and quality of life of individuals with disabilities through empowerment, integration, and inclusion.
ACIL believes if you are a person with a disability, you are your own best advocate. Our staff can help people with disabilities through the sometimes complicated process of removing barriers to living the lifestyle they choose.
Through our facilities, as well as the community, this program helps people to gain or relearn the skills they need to live independently in their own environment. ACIL offers training in a variety of areas that can help an individual become more independent.
ACIL has several individuals with disabilities willing to discuss issues and concerns that many other people wouldn't understand. This service is available one-on-one or in a group setting. We even have peer counselors who are available to talk with people with a disabilities who are currently in a nursing home or hospital.
