Broadway School of Music & the Arts
Resource Details
Founded in 1981, the Broadway School of Music & the Arts (BSMA) is a nonprofit community school committed to enriching the lives of people by providing access to high-quality, diverse arts and music instruction and programming. BSMA provides these services to all individuals regardless of age, race, religion, level of ability, or financial means. BSMA is located in one of Cleveland's poorest neighborhoods, Slavic Village, and is the only cultural institution based right in the area with the mission of making arts participation available to all, particularly to under served children, our primary audience. Tuition and program fees remain below market rates, and over the past eleven years, BSMA has provided over $55,000 in tuition assistance to needy students from our limited financial aid fund. About 30% of our students receive such assistance covering from 25% to 95% of their tuition costs. Our diverse student body ranges in age from 3 years to senior adults. Besides private music lessons and group arts classes at its facility, BSMA has three ongoing outreach programs: Suzuki violin instruction at nearby Villa Montessori Center; African drumming for women in residential substance abuse treatment at Community Assessment & Treatment Services, Inc.; and youth arts instruction at Full Gospel Evangelistic Center.
