Butler County Kinship Navigator
Resource Details
A kinship caregiver is anyone caring for a child who is not their own biological child. They are often grandparents, other relatives, friends or neighbors. The Kinship Navigator Program is designed to provide support and resources to caregivers who may sometimes feel overwhelmed by the sudden responsibility of caring for a child. The program employs two staff members referred to as kinship navigators. They can help families:
Apply for legal custody.
Apply for financial benefits for which they may be entitled.
Apply for Medicaid for children in their care.
Gain access to resources for children in their care.
Access support groups to connect with other kinship caregivers.
Access guidance by telephone to help navigate challenging behaviors of children in their care.
