The Hancock County Prosecutor is responsible for a wide range of legal functions for the County, including: act as the chief law enforcement official in the County, review, authorize and prosecute violations of felony and misdemeanor criminal laws of the State of Ohio committed inside the County, authorize and prosecute felony & misdemeanor juvenile delinquency offenses, represent and advise the board of county commissioners, board of elections and all other county officers and boards, president of the county board of trustees, member of the county budget commission, protection and recovery back of public funds and property, protection of county against illegal or fraudulent contracts. Whenever possible, the prosecutor an/or his staff will also provide information and notification of:
judicial proceedings
defendant's release on bond
charges filed
defendant's pleading to the case
scheduled trial dates
changes in custody of defendant
changes in trial dates
verdict
right to submit a victim impact statement to the court prior to sentencing
method of application for up to $50,000 in Crime Victims Compensation when applicable
Victim/witnesses will be consulted with and/or informed by the prosecutor on case dispositions such as:
dismissal
release
negotiated plea
escape of defendant
