Serving as a Surrogate Parent for a Child with a Disability

An individual who serves as a surrogate parent for a child with a disability is appointed to act in place of a parent to make educational decisions for the child. A surrogate parent is appointed if no parent can be identified, the parent cannot be located, the child is a ward of the state or the child is an unaccompanied homeless youth as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
The purpose of this course is to offer an online accessible training option for those interested in representing students with disabilities as a surrogate parent.
