United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community to advance the common good.

Programs include:

  • 2-1-1 - Simply dial 2-1-1, or text your zip code to 898-211 for referrals to utilities and food pantries.

  • Bank on Rubber City - A coalition led by United Way and the City of Akron that works to expand access to safe and affordable banking products and services for Summit County residents.

  • Bridges Virtual Workshops - In a Bridges Workshop, you will learn how the economic realities of poverty, class and wealth impact individuals and communities.

  • College and Career Academies - United Way works with Akron Public Schools’ College and Career Academies to build partnerships with local businesses – providing valuable hands-on learning experiences for students and strengthening the education to employment pipeline.

  • Community Engagement - United Way hosts a variety of volunteer opportunities uniting our community to help make a difference.

  • Family Resource Center - A safe, welcoming place in a school where parents and caregivers can get information, assistance and referrals to community resources – from financial assistance to peer support and more.

  • Financial Empowerment Center - Created through a partnership with the City of Akron, the FEC provides free, one-on-one financial coaching, helping Summit and Medina county residents acquire the skills to budget and save, access safe and affordable banking and raise their credit scores.

  • Housing Services - Coordinates access to homeless shelters, permanent supportive housing and rent assistance for individuals and families living in Summit and Medina counties who are homeless or facing eviction.

  • Imagination Library - Mails one book per month to preschool-age children – at no cost to their families.

  • Policy and Advocacy - United Way advocates at the local, state and federal level for causes vital to our community.

  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - Provides free tax preparation assistance to working families and individuals, helping them take advantage of valuable benefits, like the Earned Income Tax Credit.
